She had a vision of what it could become…
The Edge was once a coastal home of mid-century fashion, next a marine-themed restaurant featuring a cozy pizza oven bar, and now a highly curated boutique event space.
This magical place of many iterations on the majestic Penobscot Bay holds happy memories for the current owner who, years ago, built her home nearby.
After a monthly visit to check on her building project, she was welcomed into this congenial restaurant for a Solstice dinner. The oven was blazing with embers and pizza, the wine rich and red, the crowd convivial and curious. In fact, this place hosted some of the most colorful personalities in the land. Wonderful memories remain intact, even though after many years in operation the restaurant closed.
In 2017 Gail and John Bertuzzi acquired the Inn at Ocean’s Edge and its adjoining restaurant, realizing a new concept. Adorned with gorgeous Italian upholstery and wallpapers, iridescent leather banquets, modern chandeliers resembling origami and fun fifties-era lounge furniture, a chic and modern transformation ensued at The Edge restaurant.
The beloved pizza oven bar, once the color of Tuscan orange, was done up fresh and newly dressed in Cerulean blue, befitting its modern surroundings and the ocean view beyond. The finishing touch is a carefully curated art collection containing not only works of local emerging artists, but nationally recognized museum-quality pieces as well. This collection is a source of joy for the many guests who cross over the transformed threshold of The Edge.
Apart from the many interesting events that occur at The Edge, Gail developed a popular summer series of salons called "Wednesday Confidential Dinner and Dialogue on the Bay". Critically acclaimed authors, scientists and business professionals have spoken on a variety of topics at these moderated events.
